Plumbing FAQs

Plumbing
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, all of our plumbers are fully qualified and insured.

Unlike some trades, plumbing has no single mandatory qualification in the UK, which means not every plumber you call will have formal training.

All of our engineers hold a minimum of NVQ Level 2 or 3, accredited through bodies such as City & Guilds or LCL.

Where the work requires it, we also insist on specialist qualifications including G3 for unvented systems and Water Regulations certification, so whatever the job, you can be confident it’s being done properly and to the correct standard.

In most cases we’ll supply the parts needed for the job, sourcing quality components on your behalf. If you have a specific product in mind, such as a particular tap or shower unit, we’re happy to fit parts you’ve supplied yourself, though we’d always request discussing this beforehand so we can advise on suitability and compatibility.

Yes, we charge a call out fee when we attend to carry out work, however this is included within the fixed price we agree with you on arrival. You will not be charged the call out fee on top of the job cost. Parts are quoted separately and agreed before any work begins. Please note that we do not charge a call out fee for estimates or quotes where no work is carried out.

No, we don’t currently offer installation services for rainwater harvesting or graywater recycling systems.

We can install and repair waste pipework and soil stacks, but we don’t offer drain unblocking, as we don’t carry the specialist equipment (jetting, cameras etc) that these jobs require.

Where we have details of the issue, we will provide a fixed price before any work begins so you know exactly what you are committing to.

For smaller jobs, we will give you a realistic estimate upfront based on experience, so if we think it’s likely to be a washer or valve change, we’ll tell you what to expect before we arrive.

For more complex faults where the full scope isn’t clear, we’ll agree an approach with you first before any work begins.

Either way, we will always be transparent about costs before any work begins, whether that’s a fixed price, an upfront estimate, or a diagnostic fee followed by a full quote once we know exactly what we’re working with.

We can trace and repair leaks and rerun pipework within floor voids and under suspended/timber floors, but not through concrete floors or in any situation requiring machinery. We don’t carry out groundworks, driveway excavation, or work under garden foundations.

Yes, we carry out full bathroom installations and refits for homeowners across the West Midlands. We handle all of the plumbing work directly and where additional trades are required, such as tiling, plastering, decorating or electrical work, we work with a trusted network of vetted tradespeople. We manage the whole process and include everything in one agreed price, so you have a single point of contact throughout your project.

In most cases, no. For standard repairs and maintenance, payment is only due once the work is completed.

However, for larger projects, such as a full bathroom renovation or jobs requiring significant upfront material costs, a deposit may be required.

If this is the case, we will always discuss it with you clearly during the quoting process so there are never any surprises.

Gas FAQs

Gas
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, in all cases you are safe to remain in your home while gas work is carried out. If we identify an unsafe appliance, we will discuss your options and recommend either a repair or replacement.

Should you decide not to proceed, we will cap it off and disconnect it to ensure your home remains safe before we leave.

Every job is different and timescales can vary depending on the complexity of the work and what we find once we get started. Smaller jobs are often completed quickly, but factors such as the age of the property, accessibility and the condition of existing pipework and fittings can all affect how long a job takes. We will always give you an honest assessment of the likely timeframe before we begin and keep you informed if anything changes once work is underway.

Yes, we carry out gas safety inspections as a standalone service.

Our inspection covers all gas appliances and pipework in your home, checking that everything is operating safely and to the required standard.

For landlords, we can also issue a Gas Safety Certificate (CP12), which is a legal requirement for all rental properties

Heating FAQs

Heating
Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. In most cases a cylinder that’s stopped working has a faulty thermostat or a failed immersion element, both of which are straightforward and cost-effective repairs.

A full cylinder replacement is rarely necessary unless the unit is heavily scaled up or simply too small for your household’s needs. We’ll always diagnose the issue first and give you an honest assessment before recommending anything.

No, this is something we handle on your behalf. When we fit your cylinder, we’ll register it with Building Control for you, so you don’t need to worry about a thing.

No heating job is too small for us. For minor repairs like radiator valve changes or similar small fixes, we can give you a reliable estimate upfront based on experience, most of these jobs take no more than an hour or two.

Your call-out fee includes the first hour, so there’s no double charging and no nasty surprises.
